Welcome to the Piano Studio of John Cavicchio

One of John Cavicchio’s students

If you are looking for piano lessons in Lakewood, NJ or the surrounding areas, I’d be happy to hear from you. As the music director at First Presbyterian Church in Freehold, I play the piano, play organ, and direct choral music on a weekly basis. As a private teacher, I help beginner and advanced pianists reach their goals on the piano every day. Whether you want to improve your sight reading, learn to play the piano from scratch, or write your own music, I would love to work with you.

Piano Lessons For Every Goal

Do you want to play Bach Preludes and Fugues or Beethoven Sonatas? Or do you want to play the music of the Beatles, Adele, or Ray Charles? Whether you want to prepare your high schooler for conservatory auditions or become a hobbyist at home, I can help. We’ll cover fundamentals like note reading and counting, and as you improve at the piano, we’ll mix in elements of music theory, transposition, and more advanced technique. My goal is to help you become a well-rounded musician, and that will allow you to pursue every goal on the piano.

Please let me know if you have specific interests at the piano. From classical to jazz or rock to pop, we can focus on your specific goals. I have decades of experience arranging and performing in different genres, and I’m sure I can help.

Piano Lessons in Lakewood, NJ For All Ages

Piano Lessons For Adults

I’ve worked with numerous adult piano students, so I’m familiar with the goals and challenges associated with lessons for young professionals, middle aged adults, and older adults. Adults in my studio often want to know the why behind various drills and pieces of repertoire, and I’m always happy to answer any questions. Furthermore, adults often have a very specific goal in mind; some want to write songs, some want to learn how to sight read, and some want to improvise. Of course, there are many other things that you could learn on the piano as well. I’m always more than happy to help my adult students focus on their specific interests - please get in touch if you’re ready for a trial lesson.

Piano Lessons For Kids

I keep lessons fun, engaging and inspiring for the young students in my studio. I like to include simple songs that my students can leave their lesson playing, because it’s always more fun to have music to play for friends and family. We will play some musical games, but I also value a traditional education with elements of technique, note reading, and music theory.

We will build your child’s musical knowledge in a logical manner. We can start with landmark notes like C, F, and G, build outwards by teaching five finger patterns, add additional reading ability by teaching steps and skips, and so much more. Your child will learn all of the notes on the treble and bass clefs, time signatures, key signatures, proper hand position, and more.

My Studio Location Near Lakewood, NJ

My teaching studio is located in Freehold, about 20 minutes north of Lakewood. I help students in Howell Township, Freehold Township, Cassville, and the surrounding areas. My students from the Lakewood area usually travel up State Rte 9, and if you would like information about in-home piano lessons, please get in touch. I am willing to travel to student homes in select cases, especially when I have a group of interested students within a small geographic area. I can travel to student homes in Lakewood, Whitesville, Lakehurst, and more.

Beginner and Advanced Piano Lessons

I help beginners learn at their own pace. If you are particularly motivated, I can assign an above-average amount of material for you to practice at home, and we can start playing more challenging repertoire earlier than usual. But I will never move faster than you are comfortable. More advanced piano students are usually trying to break through a skill plateau, learn how to memorize and perform serious literature in front of an audience (or panel of judges), or add more musical skills to their arsenal.

For instance, some advanced piano students ask me to teach them the fundamentals of organ. This is a common request, and I’m happy to do so – learning the organ can greatly improve a pianist’s career opportunities.
